Another Piece of the Puzzle

Erik was supposed to go on his trip today.  He was going to head to Guam for a week.  Apparently Japan pays the Air Force to get those noisy fighter planes off the island for some peace and quiet while they celebrate a Japanese holiday.  Erik was a lucky duck to get sent to such a posh location for the week.  I however did not go because I am STILL waiting to hear about my job...even though school starts in 1 week.
*** catch up: I was offered a job in June.  Huge blessing!  However I have been waiting all summer for my "offer letter" that makes it official.  I was told it would take a week.  Then the HR lady was on vacation, sick, furloughed and then we went into a hiring freeze.  Long story short...I'm not officially hired and no one seems to be doing anything to fix this.  Stay tuned and pray for a happy ending;)
So the sad/cool thing about Erik's trip is that the plane had a problem, so they came back to Kadena.  Meaning...I get him one extra night!  Lucky me!
Island life is still great...too much to do...too little time. This is what we have been up to:
Bull Fights!  Two bulls battle it out in a ring to see who is the more dominant
Sometimes it takes a while to see who the winner is
The winner gets decked out and ridden by the owners. Lots of crazy dancing
 Proof that we were there
My new favorite pastime.  Getting art on my toes while looking out on the East China Sea.  Neat!
Erik & I built a horseshoe pit for our back yard:)  Ready to challenge Mom & Dad;)
 Millie loves her Dad
Erik just got a kick out of the fact that cars are so small here that they can only transport one bull.  Just a little different that what we are used to in the states.

Korea Gangnam Style

I guess Gangnam is the wealthy part of Seoul...where people have class and style.  I never knew that.  I also never knew that Psy is the new Michael Jackson...just ask any Korean...better yet, find him on buildings around the city. Visiting Seoul was definitely an experience.  Busy markets, tall buildings that surround ancient palaces, and green mountains masked in mysterious cloud.  We really enjoyed ourselves. Things we learned: Korean is a super difficult language, taxis are cheap, taxis get lost a lot, getting custom clothes made is a blast, the DMZ is awesome/terrifying,Vatos is delicious, and Korean food can wreck your stomach. A little late, but as requested...pictures from our trip. Enjoy!

The Motherload

We have been really enjoying our time here in Okinawa.  We have been blessed with great friends and have already made some memories of a lifetime.  Erik has been busy getting qualified to fly without an IP.  Millie has returned back to her normal self and we even were able to take her to the beach this last weekend.  She ran, played with dogs and dipped her toes.  Of course she didn't swim because she's not a lab or anything.

I also realized that I never mentioned that I got a job!  I am so incredibly excited.  I was told there was no chance that I would get anything my first year...I must have impressed!  So...the school nightmares have begun, (if you are a teacher...then you know)but I am still looking forward to being in the classroom.
Here a bunch of pictures to catch you up on our lives here.  Pictures tell it all! Miss you and please write!
